with aloe vera

This product contains aloe vera. Aloe vera is the ultimate beauty booster! It provides your hair with a lot of moisture. The aloe vera plant is a true survivor and can, by storing moisture, survive in the desert and in the driest places of the world. Aloe vera, also known as the "lily of the desert", also helps with dry and flaky scalp as it soothes itching. The miracle plant strengthens the hair, makes it softer and healthier and stimulates hair growth.

 without aloe vera

This product does not contain aloe vera. Products without aloe vera are especially beneficial for those hair types that already suffer from moisture overload and are too elastic. This product is suitable for people who are allergic to aloe vera as well. Aloe vera can lead to brittle and dry curls in hair with low porosity, as the ingredient is slightly acidic (pH value 6) and contains protein-like components. These can be too big and heavy for hair with low porosity. The particles do not penetrate the hair structure and cause build-up. However, every hair is different and reacts differently to various additives. It is therefore important to get to know your hair and find out what works best for you - sensitivity is required here.

 with alcohol

This product contains alcohol. In cosmetics, alcohol is often used as a binder or preservative. In addition, alcohol has an antibacterial effect. It is a very effective ingredient when it comes to removing oils and other build-up from your hair and scalp. However, it is precisely this property that can cause hair and scalp to dry out. If the hair is cleansed too often and intensively with products containing alcohol, many nourishing and protective oils can be removed. The hair becomes weak and more fragile. If these protective oils are lost, the alcohol has free access to the hair structure and removes moisture, shine and elasticity from the hair. If the hair is already stressed by frequent blow-drying, styling or dyeing, the excessive use of alcohol-containing products can also weaken the hair structure. However, you do not have to quit it completely. The further back "alcohol" is listed in the list of ingredients, the smaller the amount of it is used in the product. A harmless effect can therefore be assumed. Alcohol is not a single ingredient, but a group of substances with different properties. Not all alcohols are created equal: Short-chain alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol) dry out hair. Long-chain fatty alcohols moisturize the hair, making it soft and shiny. In addition, long-chain alcohols protect against sun rays and harmful environmental factors. Fatty alcohols originate mainly from plants, but some from animals.

This product does not contain alcohol. Alcohols can dry out the hair and irritate the scalp. In cosmetics, alcohol is often used as a binder and preservative or to achieve an antibacterial effect. If the hair is cleansed too often and intensively with products containing alcohol, many nourishing and protective oils can be removed. The hair becomes weak and more fragile. If these protective oils are lost, the alcohol has free access to the hair structure and removes moisture, shine and elasticity from the hair. If the hair is already stressed by frequent blow-drying, styling or dyeing, excessive use of products containing alcohol can weaken the hair even more. That is why it makes sense to use alcohol-free products. Alcohol is not a single ingredient, but a group of substances with different properties. However, not all alcohols are created equal: short-chain alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol) dry out the hair, while long-chain fatty alcohols moisturize the hair, making it soft and shiny. In addition, long-chain alcohols protect against sun rays and harmful environmental factors. Benzyl alcohol, for example, has an antibacterial effect and is harmless at a dosage of less than 3%. Benzyl alcohol can be obtained synthetically or from roses, lavender, citrus fruits, jasmine or ylang-ylang and falls under the category of "good alcohols". It is therefore used in many products which do not have to be declared as containing alcohol.

with perfume

This product contains perfume. Fragrances can come in different forms: artificial or natural fragrances. Perfumes and fragrances are safe in small quantities for those without allergies. These additives can highlight the properties of the product and cause a pleasant scent. For example, products that contain amino acids can generally have an unpleasant scent - that is why scents are added more often to these products in order to counteract that.

without perfume

This product does not contain perfume. It is therefore particularly suitable for those who suffer from allergies and those who prefer products without fragrances. Perfume can be absorbed through the respiratory tract, but also through the skin and cause certain reactions in some people. Perfumes and fragrances are common allergy triggers. Sensitive scalps in particular can be irritated by a large amount of these additives. Perfume is often used in combination with alcohol, which can lead to dry and itchy scalps. Therefore, it makes sense to use products without fragrances if you tend to have a dry and itchy scalp or if you are allergic to perfume.

without mineral oil

This product does not contain mineral oils. Mineral oils are made from petroleum, which seals and clog the pores and do not allow the scalp to breathe adequately. Although mineral oils make the hair look shiny, they also ensure that the hair cannot absorb moisture or other nutrients. Therefore, mineral oils should generally be avoided, unless the matter is wound healing, in this case the sealing function can be very beneficial. On the other hand, mineral oils are harmful to your health because they are supposedly carcinogenic, change the genetic make-up and can have an influence on the hormonal balance. Among other things, they harm the environment as they are very difficult to break down and hence end up in the oceans. In the list of ingredients, mineral oils can be recognized under these names: Cera Microcristallina / Microcrystalline Wax, Ceresin, Isoparaffin, Mineral Oil, Ozokerite, Paraffinum (Liquidum / Subliquidum), Petrolatum, Vaseline.

with moisture

This product contains additional moisture. Humectants store moisture in the hair structure - the curls are thus hydrated and are easy to detangle. Moisturizing ingredients such as water, aloe vera, glycerin, flaxseed, marshmallow root extract and so on hydrate the hair structure and protect it from drying out. In particular, hair with a low elasticity and hair with low porosity require a lot of moisture in general. It provides your hair with a lot of moisture, makes it soft and smooth and gives it a beautiful shine as well. It is especially suitable for thirsty and frizz-prone hair - it pampers and treats dry and brittle curls with nourishing extracts.

without moisture

This product does not contain any additional moisture. This enables an even protein-moisture balance. Products with little moisture are particularly suitable for hair with high elasticity, because it already has too much moisture. Low-moisture products are essential in the case of a moisture overload. Hair with high porosity also benefits from products without moisture, as they require more protein. Hair with low porosity behaves in a water-repellent manner due to the closed hair cuticle, so the moisture is beaded off the surface of the hair. This is why products without moisture can also be used with this hair type.

without microplastics

This product does not contain any microplastic. The term microplastic describes solid and insoluble synthetic polymers, including plastic particles, that are approx. 5 mm or smaller. Since they do not degrade and are difficult to filter, they end up in the oceans and are therefore harmful to humans and the environment. With a product that does not contain microplastic, you are contributing to a clean environment :) In some products, however, carbomer (polyacrylic acids) are used which are a polymer of acrylic acid. They swell up in water, have a gel-like consistency and form a film around the hair structure. This ingredient is harmless to your health. Copolymers do not fall under the category of microplastic. Water-soluble polymers are also not labelled as microplastic, because these dissolve during washing.

without glycerin

This product does not contain glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant, which attracts moisture very easily. However, it also releases moisture easily. It is often used in products for curly hair to moisturize the curls. Moisture is particularly important for curly hair to maintain the shape of the curl and to promote the curl formation and bounce. For hair with high porosity, it is better to use glycerine in moderation: the hair absorbs moisture quickly, but it also loses it all the more quickly. Find more information here.

Moisture is particularly important for curly hair to maintain the shape of the curl and to promote the curl formation and bounce. However, glycerine only binds moisture from the environment if the environment allows it to. If the air is already drier than the hair itself, it pulls the moisture out of the hair and releases it to the environment. The curls become dry and look frizzy. Therefore, your routine should be adjusted in dryer months. However, the effect differs from hair to hair. For example, low porosity hair generally absorbs less moisture and also takes longer to dry. Therefore, products containing glycerine are suitable for low porosity hair. For hair with high porosity, it is better to use glycerine in moderation: the hair absorbs moisture quickly, but it also loses it quickly. It is always helpful to test out products containing glycerine and to approach them slowly. Tip: It is best to use products containing glycerine at medium humidity and at temperatures between 4-16° C. Find more information here.

without sulfates

This product does not contain sulfates. Sulfates are salts or cleaning surfactants which cause shampoos to create a foam. They are detrimental to curls when used in high doses and on a regular basis, as they can dry out the hair. Sulfates open the cuticles of the hair and can thus deprive the hair of natural nutrients, oils and proteins. However, there are also differences in sulfates - e.g. Sodium Coco-Sulfate (SCS) is an anionic surfactant based on coconut oil. It is approved for natural cosmetics according to BDHI and Ecocert. While sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium dodecyl sulfate are among the more aggressive sulfates. Occasional use of a sulfate shampoo can help to deeply cleanse and to remove build-up or dirt. In addition, a sulfate shampoo can be used at the beginning of the curl journey - this sets the scalp and hair to zero ("reset"). New products with natural ingredients can then be better absorbed.

without parabens

This product does not contain parabens. Paraben is an ingredient that is used as a preservative. In terms of its chemical structure, paraben is similar to the female sex hormone estrogen and can be absorbed into the body through the skin. Parabens do not have any negative effects on hair, but they can mess up the hormonal balance.

without proteins

This product does not contain proteins. Proteins are ingredients that strengthen, regenerate, rebuild and nourish curly hair. However, proteins should be avoided if there is a protein overload (excess protein) - i.e. if the hair has too much protein and too little moisture. You might have an excess of protein if your hair is: brittle, dry, lacks shine and definition. Protein-free products tend to be suitable for hair with a low to medium porosity. However, you do not need to ban proteins completely out of your routine. You should mainly pay attention to the weight or size of the protein molecules - it is best to use hydrolyzed proteins. Hydrolyzed proteins are smaller molecules that can be better absorbed by the hair structure. Hydrolyzed proteins are obtained from the chemical process "hydrolysis". Here, an initial material is split into two new ones by adding water. You can recognize proteins in the ingredient list by their names: Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, Hydrolyzed Quinoa Protein, Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein, Keratin, Amino Acids, Silk Amino Acids etc.

This product contains proteins. Proteins are ingredients that strengthen, regenerate, rebuild and nourish curly hair. Products containing protein are especially suitable for hair with high porosity - i.e. for hair that has been heavily stressed, treated with a lot of heat or with color. But also fine and dry hair benefits from protein, because protein helps to keep moisture in the hair and thus prevents split ends. Damaged and brittle hair is deeply nourished by proteins. Protein-containing products can also be used for hair with medium porosity; light or small protein molecules are particularly suitable here - hydrolyzed proteins are best. without silicone

This product does not contain any silicone. Silicone consists of the basic material “silica” and forms a protective film around the hair which makes the strands softer. However, some harmful silicones do not allow moisture to penetrate the hair at all, which can cause the hair to dry out over time. They are also not water-soluble, which unfortunately leads to more build-up.

an animal testing

This product has not been tested on animals. The sign stands for the guidelines of the German Animal Welfare Association. Therefore, you can be sure that this product has not been tested on animals, whether directly or indirectly - it is cruelty free! However, cruelty-free does not mean vegan.

vegan

This product is vegan. It does not contain any ingredients that stem from animals. Only natural ingredients that are of vegetable origin are used. In addition, there are no harmful substances released into the environment.

CGM Safe

This product is CGM Safe. The original CGM method states that the hair should only be washed with a co-wash. In addition, the products must be free of sulfates, silicones, parabens and mineral oils. According to CGM, these rules must not be broken in order to obtain beautiful curls. At SARI CURLS, we believe that everyone should use the products that are good for them and that are suitable for the special needs of their curls and scalp. According to some reports, the rigorous CGM method can also cause numerous problems - and we want to avoid that. We stand for an individual routine and a healthy scalp, because this is the basic building block for wonderful curls. As in life, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for curly hair that applies to everyone. Nevertheless, the products with the "CGM Safe" icon are free of harmful sulfates, silicones, parabens, mineral oils, drying alcohols or other chemical ingredients. All other additives are detailed in the ingredient list.

Tip: Every structured hair is different and has different needs - so it is important not to let yourself get confused, to get to know your own hair texture and to try different products to find the right routine.
